Why You Should Use Hypnotherapy To Quit Smoking

Are you trying to quit smoking? Have you tried everything, yet are still having a hard time kicking the habit? Smoking can be an extremely hard habit to quit. In fact, more than 75 percent of smokers who attempt to quit the habit are unsuccessful in their first try. In this article we will talk in more detail about one method, hypnosis, which many people have tried with great success in their effort to give up cigarettes for good.

When most people hear the word “hypnosis” they immediately think of some crack-pot waving a gold watch and snapping his/her fingers to induce a trance-like state, but true hypnosis is nothing like this picture. In smoking cessation hypnosis there are two different approaches available. Conventional hypnosis therapy is when the hypnotherapy sessions are conducted by a trained hypnotist who can take patients through a series of relaxation exercises and suggestion. While this is a very effective form of hypnosis, it can also be rather pricey.

Self-directed hypnosis, much like the name implies, is a form of hypnosis which is self-administered, usually with the help of tapes, CDs and other aids. Self-directed hypnosis is a much more affordable option than conventional hypnosis, but it requires a lot of self-discipline and patience. Self-directed hypnosis can be very effective for the right type of person but has a lower success rate than conventional hypnosis.

Self-directed hypnosis is a bit different. In self-directed hypnosis, the person who is attempting to quit is assisted by some type of audio or written program which teaches the patient how to achieve relaxation and peace. This form of hypnosis is not for everybody, but for those that dedicate themselves to learning the program and following the steps, it can be a very effective and affordable stop smoking program.

If you think back to the many times you have tried to quit, you will undoubtedly remember the strong cravings that accompanied that cessation, especially at certain times of the day or after certain activities. For example, many smokers will crave a cigarette after a meal, so much so in fact, that it forms a sort of psychological connection between the two events. Hypnosis can help you break that connection, reducing not only the psychological cravings you feel, but the physical discomfort as well.

Quitting smoking will undoubtedly be one of the hardest things you will ever have to do, but in terms of your health it is absolutely vital. Trying to quit without some type of help will be even more difficult, which is why many experts advocate the use of some type of hypnosis to help get you through the rough spots.

Doctor Recommends Stop Smoking Hypnosis

One of the lead stories in the Michigan Newspaper was about how you can use hypnosis to stop smoking.
Here’s what the Doctor in Michigan had to say about hypnosis: Dr. Swati Dutta, a radiation oncologist at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and the Woodland Cancer Center in Genoa Township, says he strongly encourages patients who are smokers to quit because of the numerous health problems associated with smoking. Dutta says many patients can stop smoking with the use of medications, but he also encourages patients to try hypnosis.

Has anyone out there had success with hypnosis to quit smoking?

Of course I wish I never picked that first cigarrette up, but I want to quit and have heard great things about hypnosis. Have any of you quit that way? The pills and patch didn’t help me at all. Thanks.

I underwent hypnotherapy to stop smoking and it worked so how how can they say smoking is addictive?

I did it in Aug. and have had no urges since and I smoked for over 30 years. I don’t see how they can really be addicive, what do you think? I think it’s more habit

i think something society completly oversees is how powerful our minds our. Mind over matter. If you ever experiment with hallucinogenic drugs, you will quickly realize this. Now though your on the right track with quitting by the half life of the radiation particles that is in tobacco last 30 years or so. So your chances of getting lunger cancer are very very high right now even though you quit.

What kind of therapy to stop smoking?

Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as ‘my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these ‘my body needs something’ sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming – nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the ‘want something’ feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we’ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
