Smoking & Hypnotherapy : The Basics Explained

May 12th, 2010 . by stop smoking guest

If you want to stop smoking, but are having trouble doing so, then you might want to consider taking a different approach - hypnosis. You have probably tried nicotine patches and nicotine gum before, and whilst they are helpful, for most people they are not enough. The reason being that they do not change your thoughts and habits, which you need to do if you want to stop smoking for more than a few days / weeks / months at a time. By using hypnosis to stop smoking, you can reach your subconscious mind, and stop your habit at its root cause.

Hypnosis for stopping smoking provides two major advantages. One is minimized stress, and the other is effecting change in perceptions, beliefs and associations towards smoking cigarettes, thus allowing elimination of the smoking addiction. Several studies have shown that utilizing hypnotherapy to quit smoking works in a substantial proportion of cases. While hypnotherapy might not be for everyone, it can certainly help with reducing stress, which is one of the reasons a lot of smokers say that they smoke cigarettes in the first place.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of myth and speculation surrounding hypnotherapy, which is why some people are reluctant to try it to stop smoking. They have only previously seen it on TV or at a show, and think it little more than a gimmick. In reality though, hypnosis is used in many different fields to help people overcome their problems. Many, many people have overcome phobias and ended addictions because of it.

Just to clarify what precisely hypnosis is - it is a targeted form of relaxation. In other words, hypnotism enables a person to relax, whilst concentrating on a particular problem or desired outcome. It is not just unwinding or falling asleep. While having hypnotherapy, you relax your mind and body, moving past the guard of your conscious mind, to the subconscious mind.

If you can learn to control and direct your subconscious mind, which hypnotherapy allows you to do, then you can turn what is in your imagination into what your brain accepts as reality. Put simply, if you imagine yourself to be a non-smoker, then you brain may accept it as a reality, and you will lose the urges to smoke that you experience at the moment.

Using specific imagery and words, a hypnotherapist will slowly guide you into the depths of your subconscious mind. They will make suggestions to you that will lead to you thinking of yourself as a non-smoker. You can achieve a similar effect using relevant CDs and DVDs, but having one on one sessions with a hypnotherapist will increase the speed of your progress.

Stop Smoking Ebook - Cold Turkey Quit Smoking

April 30th, 2009 . by admin

I found out that there is no such thing as cold turkey stop smoking.

That’s a strange phrase too, isn’t it?  What does a cold turkey have to do with smoking cigarettes, or stopping smoking cigarettes?  I don’t know, but that has always brought up a very strange image in my mind whenever I think about that phrase.

I read somewhere that a drug addict’s skin starts to get goose bumps when they go through withdrawal.  There was another reference to it somewhere, but wherever it came from you know that it means to stop a drug without any support at all.

Stopping smoking using no support or using a cold turkey approach, isn’t a very good way to stop smoking.  I think the reason for that is that we don’t have any training in how to do a cold turkey withdrawal.  And if you want to know why, just read on.

The reason why cold turkey is a poor way to quit smoking is that there is no such thing as cold turkey quit smoking.  Anyone who has successfully quit cold turkey - and it’s a very small percentage of successful quitters-have something very important in common, and it’s not strong will power!  No way, will power has nothing to do with changing behavior in the long term.  Will power is a very short term product.  Will power will be useful in getting you started in the direction you want to go, but it just won’t get you to the goal post.  What will get you to your ultimate goal is resetting the programing in your subconscious mind.  And the way to do that is through self hypnosis.  Anyone who has quit using cold turkey has naturally used self hypnotic techniques to successfully quit smoking.  The only reason that  so many people fail at cold turkey quit smoking is because they haven’t been trained in using the techniques, and most people don’t know how to do it naturally.

Using self hypnosis is something we are all capable of doing, but it’s like snapping your fingers.  If no one ever showed you how to snap your fingers, you probably wouldn’t have discovered it on your own.  Can you imagine what a tragedy it would be if you never learned how to snap your fingers?  Of course I’m just kidding, but the only reason that you know how to do that simple act is because someone showed you how to do it and then you practiced it until you were able to it.

I invite you to take some free instruction on how to do self hypnosis so that you can effectively use the techniques to stop smoking cigarettes forever.

Doctor Recommends Stop Smoking Hypnosis

March 6th, 2009 . by admin

One of the lead stories in the Michigan Newspaper was about how you can use hypnosis to stop smoking.
Here’s what the Doctor in Michigan had to say about hypnosis: Dr. Swati Dutta, a radiation oncologist at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and the Woodland Cancer Center in Genoa Township, says he strongly encourages patients who are smokers to quit because of the numerous health problems associated with smoking. Dutta says many patients can stop smoking with the use of medications, but he also encourages patients to try hypnosis.
