Is Neuro-Linguistic-Programming The Most Effective Way To Quit Smoking?

March 9th, 2010 . by stop smoking guest

Can you recall the last time you tried to stop smoking? How long where you able to last? A week? Two weeks? Did you know that if you quit for more than a week that physically, your nicotine
addiction should have been over? So if you were no longer physically addicted how come you started smoking again? In this article we’re going to look at that.

Most people fail to stop smoking because they have a mental addiction to smoking that can’t be by quitting cold turkey or weaning yourself off of cigarettes by using nicotine substitutes like pills, gums or patches. NLP, or Neuro-Linguistic-Programming, is being promoted as the most effective easy way to quit smoking that can stop your emotional desire to smoke.

I myself view{/spin] the mental addiction to smoking as more of an emotional addiction to smoking, since we use smoking as a [spin]way to cope. It becomes lodged in our thoughts as something we need to enjoy certain situations and to tolerate others. People who haven’t smoked for years often still desire to “light up”. NLP rids you of your desire to smoke.

The method is simple yet works quite well. You simply play some recordings, and your brain relearns how to think about smoking. Seems too simple too work doesn’t it? Actually it’s a type of psycho-therapy, but don’t let that put you off. When you began to smoke you started to mentally relate smoking with aspects of your life. It slowly became part of your daily ritual.

You didn’t immediately become mentally addicted to smoking; it was a habit that you acquired through repeatedly smoking in certain situations or at certain times. At some point none of those things felt right unless you were smoking. Clearing out nicotine from your system as the sole method of quitting smoking isn’t helping you to change the way you think about smoking.

As a way to stop smoking, patches, pills and gums will eventually leave you holding the bag. You’re left with just your still untreated mental or emotional desire to smoke. [spin]Eventually it becomes a matter of willpower.

It looks like you only have two options. You could retrain your brain to learn to live without smoking while you’re quitting or you can first quit and then pray that willpower alone is powerfule enough to change your thought process. That’s exactly what those who quit cold turkey do: retrain their brains. They may not realize it but the fact is that smokers who are successful at quitting that way actually put themselves through a sort of self-induced psycho-therapy.

So back to NLP as the easiest way to quit smoking. NLP would seem to accomplish with a lot less work and certainly a lot less expense, what smokers who use patches, gums and pills do in the end: quit smoking and then retrain their brains to learn to live without smoking.Seems like the easy way is the way to go.

There are various methods to select from and there are literally 1000s of people vouching for every merchandise. It gets hard in such a situation to find precisely what can help you.

Here is a listing of stop smoking products that you might be keen on.

1. Nicotine patches: These kind of patches could be applied to your arm and they supply the body with a little amount of nicotine, so that you do not crave for tobacco. As time passes by and the system gets accustomed to this, the power of the nicotine in the patches is decreased to ensure the body gets less accustomed to nicotine. Slowly the craving for nicotine is diminished.

The main flaw with nicotine patches is the fact that they just concerns physical addiction to nicotine. The mental craving isn’t influenced. It is a great product and anyone who has a firm dedication to giving up smoking may use the product to help them in their goal. However the success rate just isn’t adequate and just those who have excessively strong stength will kick the habit by using this supplement.

2. Nicotine gums: These gums work on the same principle as nicotine patches. It halts the actual wanting for smokes by providing a nicotine substitute, which in this instance is a chewing gum. Yet again it doesn’t have to do anything with the mental factor of quitting. The effectiveness is quite small in comparison with other giveup smoking programs which take the mental aspect into consideration.

3. E-cigarette- It can be the same as a smoke, that works on a electric battery and which can be smoked just like a normal cigarette. The only difference is that there is no smoke included; therefore no tar is deposited inside lung area.

However if you use e-cigarettes then you’re still hooked on nicotine and when you stop them then you’ll still be wanting for tobacco. This is merely a replace cigarettes, though it is much less harmful as compared to cigarettes, it’s still harmful.

4. Hypnosis tapes: Hypnotherapy tapes are the only solutions obtainable in the market that deals with the actual psychological element of quitting smoking. If you want a giving up smoking product that has the best success rates then I would advise you go for Hypnosis.

The hypnotherapy tapes directly targets the unconscious head which accounts for the cigarette cravings. It’s got an exceptionally high success rates and people that utilize it can quit smoking within days.

However unless a person is willing for the hypnotherapy to be done, it’s no result. So, should you buy this quit smoking solution then be sure that you are 100% positive you want to quit smoking.

When you have to choose a good quit smoking program then I would certainly recommend you select a one that deals with the psychology of stopping.

Research has demonstrated that this dependancy is only 10% bodily and 90% psychological. Therefore if you are able to get rid of the 10% physical dependancy, even then you can very easily return to cigarette smoking since the root of the issue is still present.

5 Ways To Help You Quit Smoking

February 13th, 2010 . by stop smoking guest

Most smokers recognize the dangers of smoking these days. Authorities around the world, certainly in the developing countries, are making it harder for smokers to indulge their habit. But stopping isn’t easy, so let’s look at the main ways to stop smoking.

Of course, once they make the decision to let go of the habit - or become a non-smoker - smokers find it hard to let go of this habit. The reasons for this, broadly, is that the act of smoking has become an entrenched habit and it is linked very closely with the addiction which body has adopted to the chemicals in tobacco smoke.

Unfortunately, as smokers over the years have discovered, stopping smoking isn’t like flicking the ‘off’ switch. When you’ve decided, what are the main ways to help you stop?

- Cold Turkey.
We should call this willpower - because that is really what it is. You, as a smoker, decide that you are going to quit - maybe you set a date, such as the first of the month, or an event, maybe your birthday, maybe tomorrow - and then, you commit to working against the habit which has been formed, and against the chemical dependence which has developed and you ‘overcome’ the desire to smoke. The will to succeed, plus persistence and determination, will lead to success. Unfortunately not every one has the willpower required.

- Nicotine Replacement.
Because nicotine is a chemical, which, in this case, is produced as a result of the burning of tobacco in cigarettes, and nicotine is a chemical on which the body can develop dependence, the body’s need for this chemical often will be so strong that the individual’s willpower is simply not strong enough to counter the effects which the chemicals are having on the physiology. Hence, the development of nicotine replacement. There are various ways in which the nicotine replacement approach is taken:

- Nicotine patches.
- Nicotine Gum or lozenges.
- Nicotine inhalers.

Nicotine replacement, however, is just that. The approach is designed to have people reduce the dependence on cigarettes for the nicotine needs which may have developed as a result of smoking.

This approach does not address the behavioral habit or any underlying issues which may be associated with the need that the person feels to smoke.

- Prescription Medication.
You may seek the advice of your physician or general practitioner to see what prescription medication is available. And in recent years there have been some improvements in this area although in my experience, many doctors are reluctant to go down the medication route.

But let’s look at two drugs in this area. Pharmaceutical giant, GlaxoSmithKline, markets the first of these, Zyban. This drug works by reducing the withdrawal effects of smoking. This is a gradual process, with smokers taking the medication and reducing over time the number of cigarettes until the desire to smoke is no longer there.

Another is Chantix (or in some areas, marketed as Champix), produced by Pfizer. Like Zyban, it does not contain nicotine. With all medication, there is a reason why it requires the advice of your doctor - there may be side effects with any of these medications so it is important that you explore these fully with your doctor before beginning on your course of treatment.

It’s advisable to get your doctor’s advice on this.

- Natural Supplements.
A number of natural therapies have been developed in recent years - and many claim to have achieved great results. Whilst I can’t claim to have reviewed any of the products on the market, there are strong claims about the effectiveness of some of the products available.

Zero Nicotine are patches which contain a herbal preparation and it’s designed to eliminate the nicotine addiction. The process, claim the makers of this product, when taken in conjunction with their support program takes around 30 days.

Another herbal preparation is Smoke Deter which the makers say is an ‘All-natural, homeopathic, sub-lingual spray.’

In considering the herbal approach, it is advisable to check with others who have tried the products.

- Hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy is recognized as one of the more effective ways to stops smoking. Unlike prescription medication or nicotine replacement or herbal therapy, hypnotherapy does not involve taking any substance into the body. Often people are skeptical about hypnosis but the fact is, it’s a natural process and for therapeutic purposes has been used for thousands of years. Yes, even the ancient Egyptians used a similar process - though, it’s likely they didn’t have the need to use it to stop smoking.

Increasingly over recent years, hypnotherapy is being recognized as a powerful and effectiveness therapy in so many areas - and particularly for helping people to stop smoking. How does it work? Well, different practitioners may well have slightly different approaches, but the effective approaches will deal with the reasons why you smoke, release the subconscious attachment to the habit, and deal with the body’s addiction to the chemicals, such as nicotine, to which the body may have developed dependence. Two to four sessions are required usually and people who try hypnotherapy find it a very pleasant experience. In my experience, many people leave the first session as non-smoker’.

It’s important when seeking out a hypnotherapist, as in looking for any health practitioner, that you choose one who has the appropriate professional - and that means ‘recognized’ - qualifications and has experience in the area you are seeking his or her help for.

If you’re a smoker, whichever process you choose to follow, the decision to stop smoking may well be one of the more important decisions you make in your life, for your life.

Looking At Different Stop Smoking Programs

February 11th, 2010 . by stop smoking guest

If you truly want to quit smoking for life, there are many stop smoking programs from which you can choose. The success rates of these programs can reach up to nearly 50% smoke free after one year, a very high rate in this field. This is because stop smoking programs are designed to give you emotional, mental, and physical support to help you quit and stay off cigarettes for the rest of your life. Studies show that quitters who have a large network of support with not only family or friends, but also health care professionals and other quitters are more likely to stay from cigarettes than those people who quit on their own. In fact, only 5% of solitary quitters are still smoke free after their first year.

When you are looking for a stop smoking program, you should find one that is suited to your lifestyle. Today, you have the choice of phone support, online support, or face to face support. Some people may find a combination of any or all of the three the most effective. A phone support system is a good choice, especially for someone who is shy about asking for help. It gives you the warmth of talking to a real human being, but with the anonymity of a phone call. It can bridge the gap between face to face and online groups. There are many quitters’ hotlines; some are private groups that might be linked to a hospital, others are government funded, usually state by state. All hotlines come with a local or toll-free number for you to dial. You can receive tips, encouragement, or track your progress with counselors.

If you think that you might do better in a face to face stop smoking program, you should consider looking up your local branch of Nicotine Anonymous. This group is founded on the proven twelve step program that was pioneered by Alcoholics Anonymous. You meet once or twice a week with your support group and discuss your individual trials and triumphs as you accept you have a smoking problem and then work your way out of that problem. Many people enjoy the supportive atmosphere of these Anonymous groups so much that they keep coming for years, eventually offering inspiration and support to newer members.

Busy people might say that they simply don’t have time to quit. However, online stop smoking programs eliminate that excuse. You can choice any number of chat forums to get advice and encouragement from other people who are also going through the quitting process. Sometimes these rooms are moderated by a smoking counselor. You might be directed to web sites that offer in depth information about quitting or sell stop smoking products.

No matter which stop smoking programs you choose, there is sure to be the perfect one out there to help you quit.

3 Myths On Not Stopping Smoking

February 11th, 2010 . by stop smoking guest

The more and more I work with people who want to stop smoking, the more I wonder why we as a society accept these things as legal?! Now I don’t want to become one of those crazy people who rant all the time and lobby the government about it, but the more you find out about cigarettes, the more it makes me wonder. Take for example when a food in a supermarket just has the hint of a unhealthy toxin or chemical in it. What happens, the entire batch will get recalled. Same with the motor industry, faulty car, the entire fleet gets recalled and the problem sorted.

I asked a client before if she knew how many chemicals were in cigarettes, she said, probably around 150. She was no where close. I then asked her if I offered her a loaf of bread, with just the slight risk of damaging her health, would she take it and eat it? Would she give it around to her family? Nope! Over 4000 chemicals make up a cigarette, a vast majority of them are known to science to cause cancer for a fact. hmmm….

So in this article, I just want to go over some of the myths that people think about when approaching the idea of stopping smoking.

I’m Just a Smoker - I’ve been smoking my entire life. This is a great myth that people use. You have not been smoking all your life - what, did your mother instead of breast feeding you hand you a cigarette and say, “light up there!”. Well maybe you have been smoking since your early teens. When people say they have been smoking for 30 or more years, again they are blatantly lying. Think about this for a second, if you smoke 20 a day, taking an average of 3 minutes a cigarette, then you only smoke for an hour each day - meaning that you are not smoking for 23. You cannot say you have been smoking all your life, when in fact you have only been smoking for a fraction of it. You have spent more time over your life not smoking than you have smoking.

I Don’t have the Will Power. Will Power is not only useless at giving up cigarettes, but actually counter-productive. Will power makes use of a hypnotic language pattern known as negative embedded commands. When you rely on Will Power you are using suggestions to make yourself want to smoke - even though you are trying to quit. Don’t think of the number 7, don’t imagine a room full of people yawing and don’t forget what I was saying to you. Your brain - and mine;) - cannot process negative language. What I mean is that, for you to know what not to think about, your brain has to imagine what it is first. When I say don’t think of 7, you have to think of 7 to know what not to think about. When you say “don’t smoke”, you plant the idea of smoking in your mind. You get reminded about smoking and if you havn’t tackled the cravings and associations properly then you going to want a cigarettes and you’ll be putting yourself through an awful lot of torture in the mean time.

I Know People in Their 90’s Who Smoked Their Entire Lives I know people who won the lottery, but is it smart to rely on the lotto and think that’ll I’ll win it and never need to work. Should I just arse around and say “Sure John won the lotto, I’ll be grand and just sit around in my own filth for a few years”. Most people know that the chances of winning the lotto are minimal, so they build lives where they can financial be independent and not have to rely on chance. But the numbers tell us that the chances of leading a long and healthy life while smoking are minimal also - why take the risk?

How To Stop Smoking Once And For All - Here Is The Best Way To Stop Smoking!

February 11th, 2010 . by stop smoking guest

Every year two and a half million people in the world are sacrificed for the sake of smoking. Every 13 seconds, 1 person dies because of this unhealthy habit. The harmful effects of smoking on health are well known.

Serious diseases caused by this habit are:

Bronchitis
Lung cancer
Pneumonia
Asthma
Tuberculosis
Ulcers
Heart attacks
Various forms of cancer
Other harmful effects on the human body are:

Decrease of intellectual ability
Reduced elasticity of the skin
Reduction of the sense of smell
Reduction of the sense taste
Yellowing of teeth
This addiction is also a common cause of blindness. The sooner someone begins to smoke and the more cigarettes he smokes, the greater the risk to destroy his vision. Nicotine affects the fertility of men, because it changes the DNA and reduces sperm count. In women it reduces the chances of conception by 40%, while those women who continue to smoke during pregnancy are 3 times more likely to give birth to underweight infants.

Moreover, recent studies have shown that smoking causes serious memory loss. The surveys demonstrated that smokers have up to 20% less brain function! The accelerating loss of memory observed in smokers may be due to the high pressure caused by smoking. The increase in pressure alters blood flow to the brain. This may contribute to a reduced supply of nutrients which can cause long-term memory problems. Although, most smokers are well aware of all these harmful side effects, the problem is that very few actually quit.

Why does this happen?

Nicotine is a powerful drug and stop using it can cause intense withdrawal symptoms. Stop using nicotine when you are addicted to it, can lead to depression, irritation, insomnia and lack of focus. Most people give up and start to smoke again to get rid of all this discomfort.

So, what can be done?

If you truly want to get rid of this addiction, you must reprogram your brain. Even though the logical part of the brain (the conscious mind) understands that this is a harmful habit that needs to be stopped, the unconscious mind has a different opinion. After smoking thousands or hundreds of thousands of cigarettes in your life, this habitual action is so deeply rooted in your subconscious that quitting is next to impossible. The trick is to convince your subconscious mind that you no longer want to smoke and that it’s a completely unnecessary and disgusting habit. And one of the most effective ways to communicate with your subconscious is through Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). In an experiment, five thousand smokers went through a short NLP session. After 6 months 97.2% of them had managed to abstain from smoking.

Tried To Quit Smoking, Time And Again? Here Are 5 Steps In The Right Direction

February 2nd, 2010 . by stop smoking guest

You’ve been making an attempt to quit smoking. Time once time you’ve failed. All is not lost, however. Here are five steps to urge you started on the road to quitting smoking.

1. Scare Yourself Into Quitting

If you’ll be able to give yourself a robust enough reason to quit, you will. Understand, however, that one approach or another you may quit. Guaranteed. There are some ways in which this will happen.

1) You’ll die from a connected illness – or another illness

2) You’ll be confined to an area where you can not smoke

three) You’ll discover that you’ll quit smoking the straightforward way and you’ll just do it

You’ll most likely want to decide on choice three.

Assume concerning absolutely the worst thing that can happen to you if you continue to smoke. Suppose concerning the injury you’re inflicting every hour that you just smoke. Suppose about the hurt you’re doing to people around you, together with loved ones and friends.

Think regarding how the disgusting ash trays look and understand that the stains and sticky tar you see is coating your lungs, and building each day with each cigarette.

If you would like a lot of reasons, do some investigating into all the harm that cigarette smoking causes – from cancer to emphysema to heart disease and high blood pressure and abundant more.

The following question you’ll be asking is, “How can I quit when I’ve already tried thus many times? I want to and I’ve tried, but I simply can’t quit.”

2. Realize The Right Teacher

The explanation you’ve failed is as a result of you haven’t had the correct teacher. I bet you’ve tried cold turkey and/or by cutting back. Who told you to do it that means? Have you tried pills, gum and patches that haven’t worked? That’s no surprise, as a result of they don’t work for several people.

Notice yourself an instructor who has investigated the full issue of quitting. This person will be able to teach you everything you wish to understand and then show you the most effective means to quit smoking. You can’t apply the technique your friend at work used and expect to succeed unless you understand why you smoke, once you smoke and what it takes to interrupt the habit.

What worked for them might not work for you. When this happens repeatedly, it just sets you up to fail, because you’ll come back to expect to fail.

If you’re really serious about quitting, start educating yourself. One amongst the best places to start your analysis is with the Lung Association and therefore the Cancer Society that have in depth literature on cigarette smoking and its dangers and what you wish to try and do to quit smoking.

Select your teacher wisely. While many product available promise to create you an ex-smoker, most haven’t done the research and that they don’t offer you the secret ingredient to quitting smoking.

Time can make all the difference. Time is one of the magic secrets to quitting successfully.

3. Time it right by getting ready yourself mentally.

You have got to be prepared to quit. Making an attempt at a time when you only aren’t ready mentally can mean failure. It’s reasonably like making an attempt to work on a project when your mind isn’t very focused and ready for what’s to come. What does one get? A poorly designed product that just doesn’t work well.

Specialize in your thinking patterns and try to figure out why smoking is therefore vital to you. It will offer you a sensible clue to what you wish to try and do to start out your own personal quit smoking program.

4. Take it minute by minute – hour by hour.

How you read the time it can take to quit can have a vital impact on whether or not you succeed or not. Does one observe the whole image and suppose, “That’s it. I’m never going to own another cigarette”? That’s a scary concept to several smokers who, by the manner, are addicts. Addiction is a terrible thing as a result of it works on your mind.
